I have started uploading some 100% cotton hand-dyed fabrics to the online store! More will show up over the next few weeks. I decided to stick with full pieces for now; charm packs of 10, 6.5” squares perfect for creating your own 4”x6” fabric postcards will be added soon.  For my fiber artist friends, I have left on the frayed raw edges!

I upcycle 100% cotton sheets for my hand-dyed fabrics. They have a lovely, soft texture and can be machine or hand stitched. Procion MX cold water dyes are perfect for snow-dying, “parfait”-dying, or “flat”-dying. Snow-dying involves covering fabric with snow, then sprinkling dry dye powder over the snow. A magical thing happens when the melting snow and dyes blend as they contact the fabrics. Parfait-dying involves drizzling liquid dyes onto fabrics as they are scrunched into glass jars. Flay dying is just as it sounds, liquid dyes are worked into sheets of fabrics lain flat on a work surface one at a time or in layers separated by plastic sheeting. Each process creates “batches” of fabrics that all go together, each truly one of a kind!

Not every piece from any given batch is included in the Shop - feel free to contact me if you are looking for additional fabrics from the batch.

All dyed fabrics have been rinsed and laundered multiple times, however, like any fabric, please test for colour fastness if you are planning to use dyed fabrics in a quilt. For wall-hangings or postcards, where fabrics are not intended to be washed, you can start using them right away.  Also, like any textile, keep out of direct sunlight to limit fading over time.

Take a look at my landscape, tree, and flower postcards in the Online Store for lots of ideas for using these hand-dyed fabrics.  Dyed fabrics, like the one used behind this text, make beautiful whole cloth background for wall-hangings.

Cotton fabrics and canvas painted with acrylic paints, cotton fabrics dyed/painted using Color Vie pigment system, and eco-dyed fabrics are coming soon!
